• 4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk

Sift together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and baking powder into large bowl. Cut in margarine until crumbly. Stir in raisins. Add buttermilk and stir to make a soft dough. Turn onto a lightly floured board and knead to form a soft ball. Pat by hand on a greased baking sheet to 1 1/4-inch thickness. With a sharp knife, score into 4 sections. Bake in 350 degree oven 1 hour, or until bread is browned and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Serve warm with margarine.
